Children’s Opera: The Grumpiest Boy In the World
My new children’s opera for Victorian Opera premiered recently and has been received wonderfully. The Grumpiest Boy in the World, story and libretto by Finegan Kruckemeyer, is an enchanting tale about a grumpy seven-year old. Fed up with being normal, Zachary Briddling travels to places where there are giants and hairy creatures, and learns that anyone can stand out, no matter how ordinary they believe they are. This is one of the unique ways Victorian Opera connect our community with the marvelous world of opera. It was a delight to collaborate with playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer and immense talents Cameron Menzies (director), Orchestra Victoria under the baton of Simon Bruckard, and Chloe Graves (set design).

Great Review of Dancing With Somebody
“Weirdly Beautiful … twist ignores the line between ‘classical music’ and ‘album’ with taste and energy. Let’s hear more!” My new album Dancing With Somebody has been reviewed in Australia’s premier publication for Classical Music, Limelight Magazine, and the review is wonderful. See the review here pictured below:

How Shall We Sing in a Strange Land Nominated for Art Music Award!
How Shall We Sing in a Strange Land for choir was nominated for Vocal/Choral Work of the Year in the 2015 Art Music Awards presented by APRA and the Australian Music Centre. “How Shall We Sing” reflects the cultural diversity, contradictions and mixed history of postcolonial Australia through the juxtaposition of sacred and secular texts. I’ve enjoyed hearing about performances of this work all around the world, including the amazing Winchester Cathedral in the UK, Adelaide Chamber Singers, Choir of St James King St, Sydney, and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus. I’m extremely honored to be nominated with so many amazing musicians and composers and congratulations to all nominees and winners – including the amazing Sydney Children’s Choir and Gondwana Voices, who performed my “Rain Dream” at the awards presentation in Sydney (pictured).

Dancing with Acacia Quartet
After an amazing recording session in Studios 301 earlier this year, Acacia Quartet rockstars have performed my Whitney Houston tribute piece, Dancing With Somebody, in numerous concerts to packed-houses around Australia, including the Australian Hall in Sydney for their grand finale concert for 2015, The Company We Keep. With all these performances, the piece is picking up some great press, including on ABC Classic FM and Fine MusicFM. I’m absolutely thrilled that it’s become a favourite for Acacia, so look out for future performances!
